Three Pools
Like most beautiful spots in Nova Scotia, Three Pools is a place
everybody talks about, and which all the locals know and frequent,
but which is, to the newcomer to Nova Scotia, virtually impossible to
find. And it’s on private property, proudly owned by Nova Scotia
Power.
The first time I went to Three Pools was last August (probably just
about a year ago now), and it was with Quinton and Jordan. Before
leaving, I thought I had done my homework, having scrounged the
internet to find two sets of seemingly straight-forward directions to
the spot—though I hadn’t looked at them very closely. Well, our
journey was not short, nor was it straightforward. First we tried the
first set of directions, got lost, read the second set, found they
did not agree with the first, got lost again, and after having
circled around Gaspereau River and White Rock at least three times--and having driven all the way back to Gaspereau proper--we pulled
over and asked some men on the side of the road if they could give us the
directions to Three Pools. Turns out we had passed the entry all
three times, but hadn’t realized that it was the “No Trespassing”
sign that we were supposed to follow. Thankfully, when we finally got
there, it was more than worth it.
Three Pools is a beautiful secluded set of waterfalls in the
Gaspereau River in the middle of thick
woods. It is a popular spot, so it is unlikely you’ll ever have it
to yourself, but thankfully that also means that if it’s your first
time finding it, you should be able to spot it, because you’ll
almost certainly pass other waterfall-goers as you walk down the path
to the spot. Janelle and I went back to Three Pools this July, and it
was as lovely as ever. It is the perfect waterfall to visit for a dip
in the summer, as the water’s always warm.
