Amsterdam 2014

One of the reasons I wanted to go to Amsterdam was to see the house Etty Hillesum lived in when she wrote her diary. She wrote often of how much her writing desk meant to her, and the joy she got from simply sitting at her desk, writing, and looking out her little window that looked out onto the Museumsplein and the Rijksmumuseum. In a city with so much tourism, Etty's house remains quite untouched with only a plaque beside the door noting that "In this house, Etty Hillesum wrote her diary 1941 1942." In the lower level of the house there appeared to be offices, and the upper levels seemed to still be apartments or some type of residence. I think it's just as Etty would have wanted it.
